Problem - General Motors
Date:     02/23/2004

I own a 2001 Chevy S10 Pickup, 68000 miles the cable that holds the spare tire in place underneath the bed of the truck broke at a factory fitting, this spare has never been removed from its storage spot. GM says I have to pay for any diagnostic work in order to determine if this is a safety related problem.   -  David M Angelo

Description: On Monday of this week the spare tire fell off of my 1997 S10 pickup as I was going thru an intersection. The spare tire was never used or removed as I have never had to use it. Shortly before that I was traveling at 60 mph down a busy highway. This problem is going to potentially cause a fatal accident and GM needs to take corrective action before someone gets hurt.

Description: In February 2008, I purchased a 2007 Pontiac G5. The car came with one year free XM Radio. I called XM Radio when I was driving home from purchasing the car. The car has on the sticker, One Year Free XM Radio Trial. Also, I received a letter from XM Radio stating the one-year XM Radio trial with the purchase of the G5. I called, along with the sales manager at Vista Ridge Pontiac/GMC for them to check this out. He called me back 8 days later, stating that it's only for 90 days. What's going on with the incentives with a GM product? Can you answer this to me?

Description: Timing belt broke and ruined engine on my 2000 Cadillac Catera at 40,000 miles. Car is nearly worthless now, I can only get $500. for it. Estimate to repair is $4500. to $9000. Timing belt was replaced 1/8/03 due to GM recall. GM admits is should not have happened and offered me $1500. toward new GM car. I do not want that since the salesman will just juggle figures and make me think I got a bargain. Plus I do not trust GM anymore. I want compensated in money for value of car. GM refuses. I hope someone can help.

Located at: Orlando,  FL   32810

Description:  My name is Sharon and I purchased a brand new 2005 Chevy Cobalt on October 16, 2005 for my daughter Stacy . We are extremely unsatisfied customers, since purchasing this vehicle we have experienced several maintence, service and customer service issues. On October 28, 2005 at 8:38 am, exactly 12 days after the purchase, the vehicle was returned to Bill Heard Chevrolet for maintencing (Invoice #291426) on all rubber window run channels, all window retainers were warped, loose and the passenger window was unable to be replaced. On November 2, 2005 at 3:56 pm, the vehicle was supposed to be ready to pick up, however the repairs were not completed properly. Of course we were very disappointed because a new vehicle should not require immediate maintence nor should we have to be inconvenienced to return the new vehicle to be repaired for the same problem that was not corrected. On November 4, 2005 at 12:24pm (Invoice #292239), Stacy returned the vehicle for the continued maintencene on the rubber window run channels. Finally on November 10, 2005 at 9:50am, Stacy was able to pick up the vehicle from Bill Heard Chevrolet. We noticed the chrome door handles were starting to peel off like stickers because Stacy tried to open the door one day and she cut her finger similar to a paper cut. Luckily she was ok but I was very concerned. The door panel locks and window controllers looked as if they were rubbing off. Also the windows in the vehicle we not rolling down correctly, all of them would either not roll down at all or would roll down sometimes. I directed Stacy to take the vehicle back to Bill Heard for service. On October 2, 2006 at 3:19pm (Invoice#328228), Stacy took the vehicle in to have the above problems corrected. On May 2, 2007 (Invoice #351787) Stacy took the vehicle to Bill Heard Chevrolet to repair the passagenger side power lock because it was not working, to replace the radio’s directional buttons because they were rubbing or wearing off, and to replace the seat belt stop. On August 3, 2007 (Invoice # 363905) Stacy took the vehicle in for maintence for the air conditioning pouring out onto the passenger side floor, a front head light was condensing from the inside, again the side door panels directional buttons were rubbing or wearing off and we were still experiencing problems with the windows rolling up and down on a sometimes basis. Bill Heard explained they had to order parts to replace the door panel buttons and that the windows were not showing any signs of malfunctioning. Stacy did receive a rental car for the day. On August 8, 2007 (Invoice #354569), Stacy returned the vehicle for the replacement of the door panel buttons. On August 9, 2007, Stacy had to take the vehicle back because the passenger side door panel was not properly installed. On August 10, 2007, Stacy tried to start her vehicle but the clutch was pushing straight to the floor, once placing the vehicle in gear it was unable to operate. On August 11, 2007, Stacy contacted road side assistance and had her vehicle towed to Classic Chevrolet because it was the closest location. Stacy contacted a friend to transport her to Classic Chevrolet to get a car rental while her vehicle was being serviced. The repairs were finally completed on August 16, 2007 (Invoice #M01685). Classic Chevrolet explained they had to replace the clutch slave cylinder and reset the toe. On August 21, 2007, Stacy returned the vehicle to Bill Heard for maintence on the air conditioning again because it started leaking again, only this time it leaked even when the car was off. She again received a car rental and was able to pick up her vehicle on August 22, 2007 today. However the leak is still active and this will be the third time servicing it for the same problem which if I am correct this will be able to be considered under the Lemon Law. This has been a big inconvenience for Stacy’s employment and personal status. General Motor’s and Bill Heard Chevrolet have made it extremely difficult for me or my daughter to refer anyone to either establishment.

Description: I bought a 2004 S10 in December of 2004 new. Today (09/11/06) it has 46,000 miles. I took it in for regular oil change along with a transmission fliud change. Also, 2 days ago we started experiencing a slight starting glitch along with the radio loosing its programing. It's a bad battery. Cost to replace, $136. I thought I had a 60,000 mile warranty but not so. Only 36,000. But only last week I heard where GM now offered a 100,000 mile warranty. I was so pround to be a loyal GM buyer (just April of this year I bought a new 2005 GMC 3500 for business purpose). But now I am informed that a GM product bought before this week is just a piece of junk. GM has just lost a loyal customer. My hope is Toyota will start to make a heavy duty truck. Also I am going to Wal Mart to buy a new battery for about 50 to 60 per cent less than the GM dealer wanted. I guess it goes to show you non union is always the best.

Description: I own a 2001 chevrolet silverado pickup truck. My complaint is concerning the parking brake, as I feel is defective. I rarely use the parking brake as I live in a very flat area. Aparently the brake shoe drags along the brake drum even when the parking brake is fully disingauged. This problem came about when gm began putting discbrakes on the rear axle of pickups in 2000 year thru 2002. GM has since returned to drum brakes on the rear from 2003 to present. Even though they have done this they stilll will not admit there was ever a problem.

Description: I own a 2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer and at 53,000 miles the transmission had to be rebuilt. The socket on the "Reverse Reaction Shell" was worn badly causing the transmission main shaft to slip. The mechanic said the shell was made out of thin material and this is a common problem on these transmissions.

Description: I own a 2002 Silverado 4.3l. I have had nothing but problems with the distibutor either screws working there way out on the cap or rotor, the gear stripping out and the misfire codes. I have had to replace the entire exhaust fron the manifold back and the limited slip rear only works half the time. It is a real financial burden and frustating to be stranded on the road and paying tow and repair cost.

Description: I read about the incident with the Chevy S10 losing its spare tire and until now, It hought my loss was a fluke. I lost my spare tire from a 1997 S10 with 98000 mikes. It now has 105,000 and I am looking for a replacement crank. The cable holding the spare tire sheared at the crimp and the spare disappeared. Fortunately, no one was injured. The tire is somewhere on the highways of Atlanta. After reading about the problems of another, I think I'm destined for the welding shop and the installation of an alternate hanger.
