Domain Owner Information Scam

--> Urgent Security Warning: Do Not Give Out Your Password <--

It has come to our attention that impostors, posing as your official registrar in a fraudulent attempt to gain account access data from domain registrants, are sending deceptive e-mails requesting that you enter your account ID/username and password in a Web form under the pretext of verifying such data.

Those e-mails can at first glance appear to be coming from your registrar’s support team, but a close examination shows they are sent from public access Web-mail services. We advise you to carefully read these emails and forward the message including the header information to your local cybercrime law enforcement agency and/or to directNIC right away.

We thought it prudent to remind all customers that the directNIC staff will NEVER send such requests. We also remind you that the ONLY place where you should enter your account ID and password is when logging into your account at directNIC’s websites or when uploading your domain through FTP. You should NEVER include both your username and password in the same email under any circumstances.

If you have already inadvertently replied to an e-mail of this nature with your directNIC username and password, we recommend that you login to your account and change your password immediately. You should also file a complaint with ICANN, the governing body of the domain registration industry. The link to file a complaint with ICANN is

DirectNIC is the preferred registrar of domain names for all accounts at Sound Trax Technologies. They have been diligent, safe, honest and non-invasive since we began using their services in 1999. We have not had any problems of any kind with any of the domains we have registered through directNIC. Another plus is the fact that they do not sell their list to spammers, nor do they indulge in spamming their customers/clients themselves.
